Putin wants to boost responsibility for environmental damage

MOSCOW, Apr 21 (PRIME) – Russian President Vladimir Putin asked the Federal Assembly on Wednesday to accelerate approval of a law on financial responsibility of the owners of the facilities incurring environmental damage, adding that the fines for the damage must be allocated to eliminate of damage and improve the environment.

"I know that experts, financers do not like to separate all these but this is a crucial area, we must make an exclusion. We must directly send the money to eliminate accumulated damage and improve the environment," Putin said.

Putin said that Russia needs to create a system of tough control and monitoring of hydrocarbon emissions.
